Canada will impose matching retaliatory tariffs on U.S. imports from Sept. 8, Prime Minister Carney said. Measures will mainly target steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper and electronics; further details to be announced. The move follows a U.S. decision on Saturday to levy 50% duties on hundreds of Canadian products worth about $20bn after bilateral trade talks broke down on Friday, affecting items including plywood, alcoholic beverages, electrical equipment and hockey gear.
