Goldman Sachs' India chief economist Santanu Sengupta said India is unlikely to see widespread unemployment from AI, though some service-sector roles could be affected. He cited India's very large labor force and the high share employed in manual or physical jobs; construction and retail account for roughly 40% of the workforce and so far AI has had limited impact on those sectors. Goldman Sachs estimates that pacing AI deployment could mitigate employment shocks and that AI might raise aggregate productivity by about 0.4 percentage points over the next 10 years.
