On July 30, UEFA and its 55 member associations voted to boycott all FIFA competitions unless FIFA withdraws proposals to transfer ownership and commercial rights of the World Cup and other FIFA tournaments to private investors and provides binding guarantees to keep governance and events out of private capital. UEFA said it rejects FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s plan to form a $20bn subsidiary to run the World Cup and other tournaments and sell minority stakes to private investors. CONCACAF and its 41 member associations also rejected the proposal to sell World Cup equity but did not announce a boycott.
