Volkswagen said on its 1H 2026 results call that management board chairman and CEO Oliver Blume did not explicitly call for EU tariffs on hybrids imported from China. Blume advocated a comprehensive review of options to preserve fair competition between Europe and other regions, including supporting Chinese automakers’ local production in Europe, and said any EU tariff, if imposed, should not exceed the current rate applied to battery-electric vehicles.
