Interior Minister Laurent Nunez told an interdepartmental crisis management center on July 25 that this year’s wildfires have burned nearly 98,000 hectares, a record. Gironde alone has exceeded 40,000 hectares. Fires in Gironde, Landes and Var remain uncontained. Nunez urged the public to avoid Gironde fire zones to allow firefighting operations.
