Nikkei reports Sumitomo Chemical plans to begin mass production as early as fiscal 2028 of a halide-based solid-state electrolyte for electric vehicles. The chlorine-dominant material, developed with Kyoto University and Tottori University, is intended to lower costs without sacrificing performance and could replace sulfide and oxide electrolytes.
