Swiss federal government said on June 4 it will deploy about 4,000 armed forces personnel to border areas near the G7 summit venue. The G7 and several other leaders will meet June 15-17 in Evian-les-Bains on the French shore of Lake Geneva; the venue’s proximity to Switzerland has strained cantonal security in Geneva, Vaud and Valais. The Federal Council and parliament approved the troop reinforcement to support cantonal security forces.
