QatarEnergy has instructed all vessels approaching Ras Laffan Port to switch off their automatic identification system (AIS) “within the port, anchorages, and port waters” until further notice. The order follows Iranian attacks in March that damaged roughly 17% of Qatar’s LNG export capacity, with repairs expected to take up to five years. Before the directive, around 40 ships were transmitting positions; by Tuesday, only one vessel remained visible, according to a company advisory.
