Foreign media report the Pentagon has secured priority purchase rights to oil produced by NABEP from 17 Venezuelan fields. Under the agreement, 20% of output can be bought at prices reflecting the producer’s extraction cost rather than market rates; the remainder would be purchased at market prices. The Pentagon also reportedly took a 35% stake in the joint venture.
